2002 Cabrio remote locking beeper location

My alarm system and remote locking are no longer functioning. I'm told by a dealer I need a new control unit located in the driver side door. In the meantime, the beep-beep sound, normally made by the system when you lock the car, is occurring at random times, even when driving. The sound seems to emanate from the driver side firewall area. I have searched and cannot locate the source. I would like to disconnect it. Can anyone help me locate this beep-beep sound source?

Can't help you locate the beeper but I have a question you might be able to answer. I have two remotes and they both exhibit the same problem. Some times the doors will not lock using either of the two remotes but when I lock the doors manually, either remote will unlock the doors. Today, I had gone inside with the key in the ignition and approximately 1 minute, without touching the remote, the doors locked. And ocassionally while driving, the alarm horn, not the beep-beep of the open door, with sound one time. Weird. Have you any experience with a dealer suggesting what may need to be replaced?
Thanks

The only thing I can suggest is what was told to me by the dealer. The alarm/remote lock controller is located inside the driver-side door. The kind of problem you describe suggests to me a controller problem. My dealer offered to replace mine for $586, which I declined. I'm assuming you replaced batteries in your hand-held remotes.

I don't know if the Cabrio doors are supposed to lock automatically when you start driving the car, but don't recall this ever happening with mine. I have a 2002 Passat that does this. If the Cabrio doors don't normally auto lock when you start driving, then again your experience sounds like a problem with the remote lock control unit in the driver-side door.

Good luck.
