2002 Cabrio - Possible Fuel Pump Issue?
On my 2002 Cabrio, I noticed a high pitched whining noise under the rear of the car when it is idling. I suspect the fuel pump is going bad. If I just turn the key on without starting, I can hear the fuel pump turn on for a couple seconds but I'm not sure if it is the same sound. The car is running and performance is not affected yet. I would like to resolve the issue before a breakdown. If anyone could offer some advice and experience with this problem it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The fuel pump will switch on when you turn the key on to prime the system. It depends if you think its an excessive whine? You need to replace the fuel pump.

Thanks Keith! I ordered a new fuel pump assembly. Looks like It's not too difficult to install but I could use some guidance. I really haven't looked at it yet but I assume I need to remove the fuel tank to do it. Can you share some expertise on this procedure? Thanks!

Disconnect the battery first.
There are a few video's on YouTube if you search. |
Keith ... Thanks once again for a rapid reply! I looked at the videos and changing out the fuel pump assembly seems pretty straight forward. I should have the pump I ordered in a couple days. I will report back with my results or request further advice soon. Thanks!
