2000 golf 4 cabrio 2.0L petrol randomly dying
Im having a pretty weird problem with my golf 4 cabrio. Ive had it for about a year now but recently it started to die while idling at high temperatures (~102 celcius oil ~90 celcius water temp).
im noticing before dying that the car looses power for a second wich feels like a misfire. After that if i pull to a light or a roundabout and go into neutral the RPM needle doesnt catch itself at idle but just drops to zero and the engine turns off. After i try starting it again it turns over for a while and fires a few times before eventually starting again. Im not getting any engine lights or error codes whatsoever and when the car runs she runs great. i took out the spark plugs yesterday in order to see if there may be a problem there but i just noticed that the plug on cylinder 4 looked a lot rougher than the other 3. the car only died on me while driving once on the autobahn while i was in 5th gear it just randomly dropped from 3k rpm to 0 rpm. I pulled to the side of the road while still driving and tried to play with the gas pedal in hopes to get it going again and it started again. The weird thing is that the car isnt rattling or shaking when dying, it just goes to 0rpm and i wouldnt even notice if i wouldnt look at the dash. im really confused because i have no clue what the problem could be. My mechanic told me it could be because of bad fuel so i filled her with 98 and added injector cleaner but it still happens. if anyone of you would know what the problem could be or if there are any issues with electrical components like sensors i would be really happy if you could share your experiences.
