01 Cabrio issues
I just bought this cabrio after it had been sitting a couple of years. The fuel pump was locked up, replaced pump and filter along with cleaning the tank out. It starts fine and will idle all day but when driving it will gradually quit taking the throttle. Will run wide open for a few seconds then cut off like its running out of fuel but if you back off the throttle it comes back and runs fine but will not take more throttle. then gradually takes less and less til it will only run at idle or just barely cracked throttle. The only codes I have gotten are 102, 506, and 1128. All pretty much point toward the MAF but I hate to buy one til I am reasonably sure that's the problem. Has anyone else had similar issues? I have checked the fuel line from the tank to the regulator and they are open. Any help or advise is greatly appreciated. This is my first late model vw, the old bugs were much more simple!!!

I don't recognise those error codes 102, 506, and 1128 what did you use to scan your motor? https://volkswagenforum.com/forum/ne...gnature-34185/ |
I'm using a Memoscan OBD II scanner.
102-generic MAF circuit A low input 506-generic idle control system RPM low 1128- VW specific code-Long Term Fuel Trim B1 System Too Lean From the research I've done the MAF is looking likely but would like to hear others experiences/opinions Chuck |
Thats what you get from these cheap scanners.
VAG Error Code: 16486 EOBD II Error Code: P0102 Fault Location: Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor (G70), Bank 1 - Low Input Possible Cause: Probably no serious malfunctions. Loss of power. Intake leak. Air filter blocked. Wiring short to earth. Fuse. Mass air flow (MAF) sensor (G70). Mass Air Flow (MAF) (G70) defective. Possible Solutions: Check wiring and connections. Check / Replace Mass Air Flow (MAF) (G70). Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor signal < 66 µs Special Notes: In MY 1995-2002 (?) in Europe at VW-diesel-cars G70 had the bad reputation of slowly losing his performance, causing loss of power. It's not a matter of defective or breaking down, but it is filthy / dirty (not easy to clean). You can check functionality by making a log in [01-engine], [meas.blocks-08], group 003 (3e gear, full throttle, from 1700-4000rpm). VAG Error Code: 16890 EOBD II Error Code: P0506 Fault Location: Idle Speed Control (ISC) System (G28) - RPM Lower Than Expected Possible Cause: Throttle control unit. Possible Solutions: Check throttle valve control module. VAG Error Code: 17536 EOBD II Error Code: P1128 Fault Location: Long Term Fuel Trim, Entire Speed/Load Range, Bank 1 - System too Lean Possible Cause: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active. Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor faulty. Oxygen Sensor Control faulty. Oxygen Sensor(s) faulty. Fuel pressure/pump. Fuel Injector(s) faulty. Intake/exhaust leak. Secondary air injection (AIR) system. Hose leak. Possible Solutions: Check Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor. Check Oxygen Sensor Control. Check Oxygen Sensor(s). Check Fuel Injector(s). This stupid forum never spaces things right.
