shift knob?

Default shift ****?
anyone know how to remove the stock shift **** in a '98 beetle?? i bought a custom one but i cant get the stock one out.

Should just twist off? Most of them do. If not try pushing down the boot and clamp a set of vise-grips on the shaft and hold the shaft still while you twist.
