Researching is a bust...help!
Hey all. I'm new to the forum and am posting for a friend. She has a 2001 Turbo Beetle. She's had it in and out of the shop numerous times for the same problems. Today she was driving home and the car died on her when she was doing 50mph. It has already had the turbo replaced when it was under warranty. various vaccuum hoses, MAF sensor, battery...etc....Any ideas on what can be causing this? Thanks for any info you have.

There are a lot of things that could cause something like this. Ultimately, if you are shutting down at speed, either the fuel or the spark is getting shut off or seriously "adjusted" by the ECM. A person could guess for a long time; this type of failure should have thrown a DTC. It would be worth finding someone with a Vag Com 1551/1552 (or take it to an Auto Zone) and have them pull the codes. This could really help narrow down the potential causes. If this is not possible, then maybe a little more information on how and when it dies would be helpful, or you can start with the basics, is there spark and are you getting fuel to the cylinders.
Thanks and good luck!
