69 bug with 1200, can someone tell me the point gap? I bought a set of headers to install and afterwards my car started to run like crap. Does this have some thing to do with these preheater tubes? I also installed a smaller crank pully and belt. Believe it or not someone told me the car would run bad if the gen/alt belt was too tight. Any truth to that? I'm just agravated cause it was running perfect before and I am sure I didn't touch anything else. Help..........

RE: Points

according to haynes manual point gap is 0.016. but if you havent moved it i doubt that its your problem . usually when you put on headers you need to adjust/or rejet the carb.. as long as you dont try to adjust everything at once then you will be ok at least you will know what makes improvements.if you think the car is runnign bad because of tight belt remove it and then try running car you can do this for a short period of time .

RE: Points

Thanks for your reply. I found the problem. Don't know how or when it happened but after looking at the points, found they were cracked through and through. Went down to CarQuest and bought a new set. Installed them and bought a Haynes manual and did the timing thing and set the points and also adjusted the carb out. Now runs like a new one and I am a very happy camper.

PS Also found out that it is a 1500 and not 1200, which is nice to know I suppose....
