Default More Gas Problems

(See '69 Beetle Gas Problem of 06-07-2018). Since that date the car has been in a shop getting a new interior and a paint job---Aquatic Blue. Don't even ask about the price to bail it out! The carburetor acts plugged and the fuel volume & idle jets don't respond as advertised. Before I tear it down, I'm going to add some Gunk to the gas and run it a bit. Can somebody tell me what that large piece sticking out of the back of it is and is it necessary. I don't see one on any carburetor I've looked at on line. One more thing---what makes a Solex carburetor a Brosol carburetor? Mine is a Solex H30/31PCT.

There are sites you can Google for these Solex carburettors that show pictures with details on dismantling.

Thanks! I've been on many of the carburetor sites but still don't have the question of "large piece sticking out of the back of it is and is it necessary" answered.
