I recently bought a 98 Bug for my Daughter but it came with just 1 key.
Actually akey and a remote. Don't recall if the remote button is on the key
or separate??

Well sure enought she locked herself out of the car so we had to
call someone to "slim Jim" the door lock.

So what are my options for a backup key? I was told I had to have a
dealer program a new key to match the one we have for about $200

But I also see $8.00 blank Keys for sale on the WEB that they say can
be cut at the hardware store.

If I just need a 2nd key to unlock the doors when she locks here keys
in the car will the $8.00 key do that?

I assume I have to go the dealer route to get a 2nd key that will actually
start the car?

I appreciate any info you can provide so I can understand my options.
