Bought a 1998 Beetle 1.9L TDI was told it originally had keyless, they have no remotes. I found remotes for good price but don't want to spend the money if I can't use them. Thanks

 

The remote keys have to be coded and matched to the vehicle by VIN. Call around, some locksmiths have the authority to key the remote for you at a considerably lower cost than the dealer. The average remote key from the dealer is about $200.00 ready to go.
