How bad is this (gimme it straight, doc)
 

So im looking at where my running boards will eventually mount on (well, one of them), and im wondering if I have any chance of fixing the current damage, or having to replace it all. These are the worst places on the car. My biggest question is, since this rust is (im assuming), on the side of the heater channels, am I in for the dreaded heater channel replacement? Here are some pics of what im talking about :(

you can get new rocker pannels
try jc witney or look in a hot vw mag
but you can get them and have them welded in
