High performance engines
I'm looking for some guidance on installing a new high performance engine in my 75 Super convert. I want as much power as I can get along with the reliability so I don't spend all my time maintaning the engine. Any suggestions?

RE: High performance engines
I've spent a lot of time researching the HP motor/reliability combination over the last year. The one thing that seems to come out repeatedly no matter which shop I talk to is taking the time to do it right. Checking and rechecking to ensure that measurements are made correctly and torque specs and proper geometry are correct. A balanced counterweighted rotating assembly is a must and anything you can do to improve the oiling system also helps.
There are several good books (in their time) on building the old bug engine, most are outdated though. Best thing to do is research, research, plan, measure, measure, assemble, measure and drive. Remember though, performance after a certin point is good. After that point it's a trade-off.
