Help! Just bought my first Beetle

Please tell me I can use parts on a 97 Beetle from Mexico that are aftermarket or from older models. Don't tell me I'm screwed and have to go to Mexico. My 97 Beetle rides like a wagon but an old covered wagon. Help me.
