RE: headlights
Sounds like the wireing is goofed up, on the alt light showing up.
you must check the sealbeams to see if they are blown, the dim and bright do have seperate fuses. Also could be the switch that changes from dim to bright. You didn't say what year or type, different years have different set up's |
RE: headlights
my bug is a 73 type 1

RE: headlights
Not being on site with the car makes all this just a guess, The alt
light comming on with the high beams, could be the ground on the speedometer head bad, that would be speedometer grounded to the body where it mounts, and it could have a ground lug, also look to see if the wireing has been butchered and switched around. That model has a set of points in the turnsignal leaver that makes contact when you lift the leaver to dim or brighten the lights, that in tern works a relay mounted somewhere around the speedometer behind the card board dash cover, that relay trips and does the bright / dim thing with the lights. Back when they were new the relay would go out a lot. the switch rarely went bad, however a lot of years have passed and the little wires in the leaver could be broken. All the bugs had a problem of blowing the headlights, the voltage regulator sometimes would stick and cause a over charge blowing both headlight at the same time, and it would be what ever the driver had them on, bright or dim. Hope this helps some, GOOD LUCK |
