glow plugs

On my 2001 new beetle 1.9 diesel, I got a check engine light. The diagnostic code is a po380 which is a glow plug heater circuit A malfunction. Can I replace my glow plugs and get rid of the light?

RE: glow plugs

Would be best to test the glow plugs first, undo the wire on each
glow plug one at a time, us a volt ohm meter and set it on ohm,
touch one lead to the engine block and the other lead to the
top of the glow plug where the wire fastened, if you get an ohm
reading of any kind the plug should be good, no reading the plug
would be bad, check each one this way one at a time, if you
have one bad then replace that one. If all are good, then
turn on the switch and use the volt ohm meter on 12 volts to see
if your getting current to the plugs, if not look for a bad fuse or
relay, or anything else feeding the circuit. Be sure the leads are
not touching anything like a direct short to the head or what ever
could be in the area.
