Gas mileage.......

I know there are many factors, but, what kind of gas mileage should I expect from a 1600cc Bug.....on average?

RE: Gas mileage.......

I used to get about 20-22 in the city and about 25-26 on the road. That's it! The engine with the manual transmission is geared to high and the RPMs is what sucks the gas. Hey, that was great back in 1973.

RE: Gas mileage.......

I'll pull this thread back to the front, I have a little input... I used to be stationed in italy with the us navy and we all had to use italian gas (which has no gas purification regulations... [:@]). My bug (1970, 1600cc, manual, stock) used to get around 20 mpg (appx... you cant be sure when ur gas guage keeps breaking...). My bug is still in "ocean transit" from italy back to the states, so I'm anxious as to what mpg I'll get with american gas. Oh yeah, and sometimes I got crappy cold-weather mileage because the only oil americans on the base have available for purchase is a generic oil for all cars, and its not what my beetle needs... (again, [:@]) Anybody else have any thoughts on this?
