Engine Swap and rebuild help please!!!

Hey Y'all!

I just joined the forum! I owned VW's many years ago, but not since, so I have forgotten everything I once knew!

A couple of quick questions, please? I bought a 1970 Beetle a while back, to convert it to all electric. It sat for years, and the floors are now part of the ground where it sat! Well, while waiting for me to convert it, I just bought a 1974 Super Beetle that onlyneeds an engine. My first question is, can I swap the 1970 engine into the 74 without any mods? Will it be a simple swap?

Is there a section here for the swap/ engine info?

Does anyone here have any videos for members of replacing the floorpans and/or heater channels?

The 74 came with the original engine, but dismantled due to a rod bearing. Some tell me it's necessary to align bore the block to do a rebuild right, but I can't find anyone here to do a VW block! Is a align bore a necessity or just highly recommended?

The engine's are about the same, should bolt in. Don't
remember if the 74 is fuelinjected or not, but the complete
70 engine with carb should run fine.
As for the line bore on the block, If the block is in good
shape at the main bearing journals,( where the main bearings fit in the block ) don't line bore, I never had a block
that was line bored that was really done correct. The factory bore is a lot better. If the Journals show some wear
and the bearings don't fit correct then line bore may be
needed. The block at the main bearing area should be smooth and no grooves worn in.

As for the floor pan, the body will unbolt from the pan
and bolt on another, the heater ducts or tubes are part of
the body not the pan, sounds like it would be best to use
that one just for as many parts as you can get off it.

RE: Engine Swap and rebuild help please!!!

hey,
i also have a 71 beetle that me and my step dad are rebuilding.
and for the most part, all of the old beetles are the same and you can swap all kinds of parts between them.
you should have no problem with the engine swap.
