engine stalling problem

could someone please tell me why my 71' bug engine (in a dune buggy) stalls at idelafter the choke is about 3/4 of the way offunless i constenly rev the engine, i alredy checked the idel cutoff, also it won't let me set the timing where it's suposed to be (7.5 deg. btdc) i can only get it to about 2-3 deg. btdc before it won't run at all, o forgot to metion when the choke starts to go off i loose power very quikly as the choke goes off more and more, and i just rebuilt the carb.

RE: engine stalling problem

the other thing you could try would be to just replace the carb, but at the same time, check the valve clearence on the intake side of the head, as well as valve back-lash on the exhaust side,...if you don't have good sealing valves, you will loose so much power, and your engine will stall due to the low compression that the engine has.
