Engine Rebuild ?'s
Howdy all!
I am rebuilding a 1969 1600cc 57 horse single port engine. This is the first for me. I already have it torn apart. The case needs to be align bored, I need a new crankshaft, and then back together it goes. I have a Big Bore rebuild kit from JC Whitney that will increase the displacement to 1650cc. I also have a new high performance camshaft from Engle Cams.
My question is, with having a high performance camshaft that allows greater lift, will I need new rocker arm sets. I know that they will allow even more lift, but is it necessary?
Your stock rocker arms will work just fine, infact they are what
you want with the cam, but the valve adjustment will be at a different thickness than the factory adjustment, usually more clearance. On the big bore kit, years ago wehad a 88mm kit and
it would increase the cc but the engine had less power, they were
just not a correct thing to do. The bug engine should not go over
9.1 to 1 compression ratio if you want it to stay together. The engine was built for economy instead of power so it's not strong
enough for a lot of build up.
