Buying my first Beetle!
I posted this in the new members area and haven't gotten any responses, trying my luck here. I'm about to purchase my first VW, a 1970 Beetle for $700 It's more out of necessity(I needed a cheap car asap!) but I've always had a spot in my heart for Beetles, so I'm pretty excited. As far as I know the engine runs well but I don't have a lot of knowledge about cars in general and it does need work, I'm a somewhat smart person and a pretty quick learner and I've always heard how cheap and easy these cars are to work on. I wanted to ask all of you out there if there is like an essential book or anything like that out there that I can pick up that will help me along the way. Like I said my knowledge is pretty limited, for instance if I were to go out there one day and for some reason it doesn't start up, I wouldn't even know where to start. So I'm looking for a book or something(preferably with pics haha) that I can read that will give me a lot of knowledge about these cars and maybe like a how-to guide. Any help is appreciated, and I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot from me in the next few months.
Chris
PS. Things I know for sure will need work eventually:
brakes - in working order but will need work
clutch - same as brakes
floor panels - in bad shape but serviceable for now
heating/defrost - it has none right now
