Buying a 98 beetle pros/cons???
 

Hey i am looking at a 1998 Beetle non turbo with 128K miles on it it has had two owners and is in good shape body/interior. Any pro's or con's that i should know about??? A bug that old with that mileage on it may be a good deal, but have it checked out by a reliable mechanic before you buy. The early new bugs had a track record of electrical issues. Most serious maintnenace issues come around the 100k mark for the new bugs and include some pricyparts replacement. Timing belt, spark plug change, coolant and brake maintneance (ABS)are just a few. I have had several new bugs and everything started tocome apart at that point. I did my own maintnenace so the cost was reduced to parts only. The spark plug and harness change was over $100.00 in parts and I did the work(4 hours). Changing the headlamp is a major undertaking and expensive if you cannot do it yourself. Just make sure of what you are getting into.
