i have a 74 beetle with a 71 1600 cc engine.the engine rocks side to side until it stalls,at idle speed. the higher the idle speed, the less it rocks until it finally stops. a new tune-up (someone put pertronics breakerless points,i havent changed) carb has no vacum leaks, egr not connected, timing good, does not sound like it is miss firing. please help thanks

Diagnosing engine faults on the web isn't easy.

So thats the older flat 4 air cooled Beetle. When it does run does it run evenly on all cylinders?

If you've checked the timing and found no leaks it comes down to the fuel\air mixture at idle so you need to check all carburettor jets are clean especially the idle mixture screw near the base on the carburettor flange.
