air pressure sound
 

My wife test drove a 2001 New Beetle turbo yesterday and when she would give it gas it would make a sound like a burst of air pressure being released. The more gas she gave it, the more air would be released making a pretty lound noise, like a semi-truck when it stops and the brakes release air pressure. Just wondering if anybody knows what that might be and is if a fixable problem or should we not buy the car.
