I have a 74 Superbeetle with 1600 cc d'ual-port engine (I gotta put in the apostrophe or I get an error. For some reason this forum will not allow you to post the word d-u-a-l.) I bought it in 1987knowing I was living on borrowed time with a bad main bearing. It gave up the ghost a year later and has been sitting ever since. My daughter wants to drive it and we are both excited about it as a project car.

I have a couple of questions:

1. What should I do for the engine, replace with new, rebuild, or rebuild myself? A local mechanic said his cost would be about $2200-2500 with a 24/24 warranty. I knew a guy long ago who did his on his kitchen table. If it is not a real difficult job I have no problem doing it and Im sure my daughtr would have some fun.

2. Who is a good source for parts? It needs some body and interior sturff.
