Hi all,
I'm new here so I'll introduce myself first. I'm Andy and my father is selling me his 72 1600 cc Beetle. It's white with a 4 spd manual trans. Now, I come from a muscle car background but I can't let this bug go since it's been in my family for 27+ years now.
My question is, where do I start with some decent performance mods. I would like to start off with the bolt ons. I was thinking of dual Weber 44's and headers to start, unless there is a better place to start.
What kind of mods should I start with and what kind of hp figures can I reasonably expect?
When I'm all said and done with the bug I would like to stroke the engine to put out somewhere between 150-160 hp.
Any suggestions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Andy

There are some good magazines out there, with a lot of vendors selling stuff. VW Trends, and Hot VW's are two that I can remember. Just from personal experience dual 44's are a bear to get them to work right. I've always had better luck with the single 42's or 44's. Gene Berg used to sell some cool stuff. I'm not sure he is still in business since he passed away, but his sons may still be running the business.
