'64 Beetle kit car
 

Hi all, I'm new here. Reason I'm posting is because I'm very interested in a 1964 Volkswagen Beetle with a kit on it to look like a 1929 Bugatti. I've only owned full-size domestic automobiles (my current driver is an '88 Lincoln Town Car) so I know almost nothing about Volkswagens whatsoever. This would be an entirely new experience for me, so I'm uneasy about it. The guy's asking price is $4000. He took me for a ride in it. It seems to run quite well, but I'm used to a Lincoln, so I don't know if it runs bad or well for a Volkswagen. It needs a lot of TLC, but it runs and sounds pretty cool.

What I'd like help with is whether $4000 is a good price or not. I'd also like to know of any and all issues to look out for in a car this old, and since I have no experience whatsoever with Volkswagens, I'd like to know of things to look out for, part availability/cost, etc.
