Volkswagen Forum - VW Forums for Volkwagen enthusiasts - 2008 Beetle overheated- now I got codes!

Hey all- had my daughter’s 2008 Beetle overheat the other day after it “acted and sounded funny” (her words) then cut out and died in the mall parking lot. Had it towed home, called a VW mechanic yesterday and said it was “$900 for the last Beetle we had in here that overheated” so I laughed at him and said thanks but no thanks!

Turned out it was a coolant hose that started leaking and drained the whole system (getting a new one today) but I’m pretty sure we lucked out and don’t have a cracked block or head gasket blown. The oil isn’t “milky” so no signs of water in there, and it actually starts up and runs pretty smoothly BUT, now it won’t go past 2000 RPM’s even with the gas pedal to the floor. Almost feels like there’s a governor on it now, so I figured it was a wonderful computer default that’s doing this- put my trusty ODB2 reader on and got the following fault codes-

P0300- Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0303- Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0304- Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
P0305- Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected

In addition to those four cylinder misfire codes I got these two as well-

P0328- Knock Sensor 1 Circuit High, Bank 1 or Single Sensor (odd since I didn't get a fault code for cylinders 1 & 2?)
P3081- “Manufacturer specific code”= Engine temperature is too low (assuming because there’s no coolant in there, could also be a faulty Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor?)

Soooooo I’m hoping that clearing these codes popped up during the overheating and just need to be reset and everything will be fine, but I know this Beetle hates me and probably won’t just play nice and do that.

I’m putting the new hose in soon which should at least fix the coolant leak, and thinking of doing these things while I’m in there-

New plugs and wires (might have been damaged/fouled from an overheating like this)?
New ECT sensor?
New water pump and/or thermostat?
New coolant (duh)
Oil change?

Any other thoughts/ideas on this would be greatly appreciated cause I ain’t spending $900 to replace a broken rubber hose!!!
