Default 2007 Beetle just quiting

2007 Beetle convertible purchased last month with 9500 miles on it. Drove it to south Texas from Tucson (1200 miles) without any issues coming up.

Car now has about 11,500 miles on it. Last week the car just died while waiting at a stop light. Pushed the car into a parking lot and went to get it about 4 hours later. Still would not start after cranking it many times. The next morning it still would not start. Towed it to a repair shop where it sat a couple of hours. Before pushing it into the bay they cranked it and it started. Would start every time and they let it run for awhile. Drove it home and started doing research.

After some reading I gambled it was the crankshaft position sensor/engine speed control sensor so I replaced that yesterday. While waiting at a light last night it died again and would not restart. The kids pushed it into a parking lot and waited for me to pick them up. Took me about 15 minutes to get to them, I got into the and it started right up and drove it 3 miles home. It starts right up this morning like nothing is wrong.

All battery terminals and wires are clean just like it left the factory. Looking for ideas as to what might be causing this issue so thanks in advance.

You have a 2007 Beetle with only 9500 miles on it, strange low mileage?

Well its hard to diagnose vehicle problems on the web. What I would suggest is you find someone with VAG-COM\VCDS to do an Autoscan and see if any error codes come back. I believe AutoZone will do a free scan in the hope you buy something of them. Are there any warning lamps MIL lamps flashing on the dash?

We need a few more details about your Beetle and please add them to your signature then we won't need to ask again.

2007 Beetle convertible with what engine, the engine code would be a big help this is normally of a sticker on the timing belt cover.

Vag-Com/VCDS cable will be arriving tomorrow so that will be a big help I hope. I have updated my sig with the car details. The car set a miss code a couple of weeks back and I just cleared it. Since it started dying no CEL is showing.

Found this car on AutoTrader and I guess the mom had a Beetle convertible back in her day and thought her daughter would love it. Apparently the daughter didn't feel the same way so the car sat and was an errand car for their office. Paid $14.5 which I thought was a good deal. Looks almost new as it sat garaged most of its life.

I have attached my Vag-Com log. Basically it has the engine miss on cyl 4 and a 01314 ECM code in several places. Cleared all codes and will see what comes back.

VAG Error Code: 16684
EOBD II Error Code: P0300

Fault Location:
Random/Multiple Cylinder(s) - Misfire Detected

Possible Cause:
Air Intake System leaking.
Fuel Supply faulty.
Injector(s) faulty.
Ignition Cable(s) and/or Spark Plug(s) faulty.
Ignition coil(s).Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve (N18) stuck/open.
Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) faulty.
Low compression.
Wiring.

Possible Solutions
Check Misfire Recognition.
Check Air Intake System.
Check Fuel Supply.
Check Injector(s) and Injector Sealing.
Check Ignition Cable(s) and Spark Plug(s).
Check Ignition Coil(s).
Check Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve (N18).
Check Camshaft Position Sensor (G40).

Special Notes:
This DTC indicates that one or multiple cylinders are misfiring, but the ECU fails to identify the cylinder.

VAG Error Code: 16688
EOBD II Error Code: P0304

Fault Location
Cylinder 4 - Misfire Detected

Possible Cause:
Wiring.
Ignition system.

Fuel injectors.
Fuel pressure.
Running out of fuel.
EVAP canister purge valve.
Evaporative emission system.
Low compression.
Base engine problems.
Engine control module (ECM).

Special Notes:
This feature search for engine misfire in a specific cylinder. Most of the time the cause for a misfire is a lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, or poor compression.

VAG Error Code: 01314

Fault Location:
Engine Control Module - No Communications

Possible Cause:
CAN-Databus Wiring/Connectors from/to Engine Control Module faulty.

Fault(s) stored in Engine Control Module.

Engine Control Module recently flashed or re-mapped.

Possible Solutions:
Check CAN-Databus Wiring/Connectors from/to Engine Control Module.

Check Measuring Value Blocks (MVB).

Usually Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) 125+ show the current Communication Status.

VAG Error Code: 0131

Fault Location:
Engine Control Module (ECM) - Check DTC Memory

Possible Cause:

Fault(s) stored in Engine control module (ECM).

Possible Solutions:

Check Engine control module (ECM) for fault codes.

Special Notes:

Engine control module (ECM) stored a Code which influences other Control Modules Functionality.
To clear this Fault Code you will need to correct the Problem in the Engine control module (ECM) first.

VAG Error Code: 65535

Fault Locationn

Internal Control Module Memory Error

Possible Cause
Wiring from/to Control Module faulty.
Voltage Supply and/or Ground Supply faulty.

Control Module faulty.
Control Module Housing leaky.

Possible Solutions:
Check/Clean Wiring from/to Control Module.
Check Voltage Supply and Ground Supply including the Main Supply/Connections at the Battery.

Replace Control Module.

Special Notes:
This fault is NOT to be ignored when found in a major and/or critical system (Airbag, ABS etc.).
When stored in other unimportant systems (Radio etc.) the general suggestion is to ignore it unless you notice functional limitations. Within the warranty period dealers are usually required to replace such control modules, but there have been a couple of cases with similar codes where these are getting ignored due to flaws in the control module software. If in doubt please refer to technical bulletins and similar documents provided by the vehicle manufacturer.

Audi Airbag 6 & 7.
Problem: A fault of the acceleration sensor may result in the above fault.
Solution: Replace Airbag control module and both acceleration sensors.
Audi Airbag 8.
Problem: Due to under voltage the control module does not complete it's self test successfully.
Solution: Replace Airbag control module and install a under voltage protection relay for it.
Certain older TDI ECUs which have a vacuum line going to them.
Problem: Vacuum line broken, either before ECU or inside ECU.
Solution: Inspect and repair vacuum lines to ECU and inside ECU.

Its a crap forum for pasting error codes because its html based.

Died again last night but our daughter was able to get it restarted on the third try after about 5 minutes. No codes at all this morning.

Still looking for ideas.
