2004 Beetle Convertible Oxygen Sensor failure

My beetle has only 36,000 miles and the Oxygen Sensor has failed. They want over $400.00 to fix it. I can purchase the part online for $126.00. Is it easy to replace?

I can't believe it has failed I have a 2002 Toyota Highlander no problems.

I have been to the dealer many times since owning the car for only 1 year. It think it is time to maybe sell it.

RE: 2004 Beetle Convertible Oxygen Sensor failure

The convertible version of the bug seems to have more problems than the rest. I can't offer a reason for this, but it seems to be true from the people I know that have them. As for your oxygen sensor make sure you know which one is bad before you go into it. Some models have a pre and post catalytic oxygen sensor. Go to advance auto and have them scan it for you so you start out right. They will do this for free and may give you a good break on the sensor. Depending on how badly it is stuck in the socket you may need a small torch to heat the flange to get it loose. Always use the right size wrench for the job, no vicegrips or channellocks.
