1999 New Beetle Manual Transmission Problems
Hi there,
Last week a bought a used New Beetle 1999 144K manual transmission. When I did the drive test all was OK, but after few days some transmission problems show up. At cold in the morning shifts fine , but after 10k of running shifts hard in first gear, in second is better but not how supposed to be. Another thing is, in 3rd and 4th gear when I am using break engine (even when I am not accelerating but I am in 3rd or 4th gear) is making a "trrrrrrrr" sound, it disappear when I accelerate. I already change the linkage, in my opinion it is something in gearbox but I don't know what it could be, some bearings? When the engine is not running everything works fine, the clutch is fine. I noticed something, if is just a quick stop and it is in neutral and I am not lifting the clutch, then shifts fine is 1st gear. I aready chanhe the gear oil, I used 75W90 with lucas leaking fix additive. Is there somebody who run in similar problem? Thank you |
I did more tests, looks like is not working properly even when the engine is cold I have to push hard to get in first gear, but something interesting, if the car is moving to very low speed is working fine, it goes perfect in first gear
What can be wrong Thanks |
Thanks for the help.
If anything i will need I will leave message here only. |
Common causes of hard shifting are:
*Improper lubricant viscosity or lubricant level *Clutch linkage needs adjustment/ lubrication. |
I changed the transmission oil three times, I ended up to have some improvements with Pennzoil Syncromesh, but is not how suppose to be. I thing the first gear syncro is bad. With the engine off works perfect, but not in normal operation when driving.
Thanks |
I also had this problem 2 months ago, I was with her at the service guys have made some adjustments to the gearbox and put some oil.
