Alternator

Hello vw. I have an good alternator from a 73 bug. Needs external regulator. What reg can be used? How is it wired up? There isn't any stock wire and nothing is color coded. Thank you somberlights

Morning. I just took off my generator and am putting on an alternator with internal reg. The wiring is not original and is impossible to follow. Is there an easy way to tie alternator to battery? Thank you, somberlights:confused:

Are you sure its an alternator on a 73 air cooled engine? I know the dynamo add an external regulator.
