1972 Volkswagon Street Buggy
i have a 1972 beetle that has been converted to a street buggy i am having problems with the power i took it out on the road today and it seams that it cant go faster than 45 mph and i cant shift out of 3rd gear without the engine boging down. i have new points, plugs, wires and air cleaner. also i am haveing trouble with the alternator.

have someone push on it and check if the carb is opening all the way with the motor off |

how do you know when it is at 0 degrees?

you need a timing light
hook it up to #1 spark plug shine it on the crank pully there is a small notch on the pully you line up with the case halfs |

ok so i just rebuilt the carb and cleaned all the jets one was all junked up with stuff but i am still having a problem with the generator i dont get voltage from the df terminal when connected with the d+ terminal but i do get voltage when the voltmeter is connected to the brush that connects to the df terminal, and the d+ terminal. is it ok if i just connect the wire that goes to the df terminal straight to the df brush?

yes i do i just replaced that
