Default 1971 Beetle Gland nut

I am trying to pull the gland nut on my engine that holds the flywheel on and it just wont come. I put a 1/2" breaker bar on it with 6 feet of pipe to turn the nut while my grandpa held the flywheel with a piece of metal I drilled two holes in to match the pressure plate bolt holes and then I bolted it on. He also had about 6 feet of leverage too. I pulled and pulled and it wont come off and I think my 1/2" made in U.S.A. breaker bar is about to break. I think we are going to heat the nut up cherry red hot and then try pulling it off. Any suggestions???
