But still gives me the blue temperature light when I turn it on then when I run the car it give me the red temperature light then after a few mins the temperature light turns off ? what can this be I noticed the fans come on when the car key is on and ac on, but funny thing when car is running and starts to get hot they dont ????

Its hard to diagnose electrical problems on the web you really need to find someone or buy VAG-COM\VCDS to diagnose your system. You can check out sensors, components and actual engine temperature.

Thats something I will do soon thanks, Hey yeah another question how can I check the actual engine temperature is there like a digital display on the car that says it ? and how do I know if the water pump is bad ? how can I check this ?

Keithuk 10-28-2012 07:02 PM

As I said the engine temperature can be read off with VAG-COM\VCDS. If you have a bad water pump it will overheat the longer you drive it, obviously if you drive it fast it will overheat faster.

Again we don't know the full details of this motor.

Ok yeah it overheats, not sure if it gets real hot though because when it gives me the temperature light I quickly shut it off and wait. Its an 04 beetle 2.0 automatic with around 150k miles on it it was bought used at around 140k miles

A 04 Beetle 2.0 doesn't tell me much, is it petrol or diesel, if you know the engine code thats even better?

Its petrol, how do I find out the engine code ?

Keithuk 10-29-2012 02:34 PM

Well if you had cared to read the link I've posted three times you would find out. https://volkswagenforum.com/forum/ne...gnature-34185/

How can I find out if its the radiator bad clogged, or if it needs a water pump ?

Keithuk 10-30-2012 06:28 AM

Take the radiator off and reverse flush it with a hose pipe and see how quickly the water comes out and the colour.

You don't say what the mileage is and whether its due for a timing belt change? On TDI's they change the water pump at the same time they change the timing belt as they can cause problems.

Have you found the engine code yet?
