"Check Engine" light

The "check engine" light on my 2002 Beetle (45K miles) comes on from time to time, usually while driving. When I turn off the engine, and turn it back on it usually goes away.

I don't want to take the car to the dealership, I've lost total trust in them. I'm hoping I can fix it cheap, or find someone who can.

I live in Palm Beach county, Florida. Any advice or suggested mechanics would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

RE: "Check Engine" light

your check engine light could mean a million things. I would just go to another repair shop and see what the code is and take it from there. Hopefully its nothing to serious. And if you wanna jury rig it take your instrument panel off, lift your gauge plate up and stick a piece of electrical take overthe light, but is your enigine light comes on because of something serious youll be screwed.

RE: "Check Engine" light

Could be something as simple as loose gas cap. At least that is what VW dealer here keeps telling us.
