Default Coilovers on 2002 Vw Golf (2.0L)

Hey i was thinking about putting coilovers on my golf and lowering about 2 inches. A few people have told me that in order to do that i would need caster camber plates to align the wheels for proper tire wear. I've also been told that i would need to have wheels spacers. My tires are 225/45/17. My question is, do i really need wheel spacers and are caster camber plates necessary or would an alignment be enough?
