got myself a lovely scirocco gt 11 today (yes i know its the golf section but the engines are the same arent they??)....anyway...its ticking over on 3 cylinders and when you take it to 2-3000 revs it just cuts out all together after a couple of seconds..starts again fine and ticks over on 3 again.....rac bloke just scratched his head and towed me home.....any ideas???

Sounds like an ignition problem. Could be as simple as a spark plug. What year is your car?

 

its a 90 h reg,had a word with a mechanic who seems to think its sludge build up coming through as i drove it the furthest it had been in 3 years! it was on fumes when i picked it up and he thinks all the crap has been dragged through gradually causing the performance to get progresively worse till in wouldnt hardly go at all after 40 miles!
