Turbo CHARGED!
Here's a lil question, I'm not even sure if it can be done. I have an 89 SAAB 900 2.0 turbo, could i put that turbo on a 91 VW GTI?

RE: Turbo CHARGED!
In reality yes, is it practical? Depends on the size of the turbo and the application you're using it for, also on cost and what you have to do yourself. It's a custom deal. Unless there's kits out there.

RE: Turbo CHARGED!
where should I start??? Or should I just look for a bolt on turbo kit made for my car???

RE: Turbo CHARGED!
I would look around and see if they have a kit that will fit your car. I use to work for a company that did customer turbo kits for GM cars, and it's 100% not for the novice any way you look at it. It is a very complicated project to take on if you're not well versed in turbo systems. If anything i'd rather find a kit lol easier to do.

RE: Turbo CHARGED!
yeah, J's right, its a ridiculous amount of work to do oneself. and its even more work to find out all that needs to be done for the motor to hold up to the turbo. there will probably need to be some work done to build up everything to hold the extra pressure, otherwise you may not even be able to use enough boost to make the whole project worth while.
we boosted a 4 cylinder dodge dakota, using a non-intercooled turbo off a daytona. it was a great deal of work getting it going, not to mention customizing the engine bay to make it all fit like we needed. We didnt beef up the motor, because we didnt know too much at the time and figured the motor was tough enough. then again we only ran about 8 pounds of boost with a semi-upgraded fuel system. all in all it was a total backyard operation, just seeing if it would work. which it kind of did, though it didnt push as much as we'd have like it to. so all in all, id say find a kit made for the car, do the upgrades needed, and have it work like its supposed to, unless you have a professional (unlike my friends and i) that can help and make it work the way it should. |
