COOL BRO! I have pretty much the same car in pretty much the same shape. mine is not gutted yet. I want to make mine into a street Whip that will keep up with the jap cars.
I think you called this a jetta? It depends on the year but I am pretty sure this was never called a jetta in any country. heres what I know on the model:
In 1973 this body style with square headlights was released in europe as the Passat in a four door sedan and five door wagon. the body was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. It was built on the same drive train as the VW Fox. and was also sold as an Audi 80. or the Audi Fox (same as the VW fox)
In 1974 it was released in the U.S. as the volkswagon Dasher It had a 1.5liter, that made 75HP.
In 1975 it came with a 1.6 liter engine but due to smog control it only made 70HP. the 3 door fast back or hatch back was released in 1975 also.
In 1976 they were equiped with bosch fuel injection and this bumped up the HP to 78HP.
in 1978 they came with a 4 headlight grill with round headlights and a updated interior and diesel motor as an option.
1979 volkswagon introduced the 5 speed transmission to the dasher. and the last of them built in 1981 only came with the diesel motor.
can I see A pic of the vin plate and the engine?
I havent taken pictures of mine yet it's under about a foot of snow.
keep us posted on the progress. I'm excited to see someone starting the same project as me.

Glad to know that you have a model like mine, I will post more photos for you to see this as my restoration.
I live here in Brazil is very difficult to restore $ $ $. But it's a way.
Post photos of your car too! I am curious!
