My wife bought the 2001 Jetta when it came out. She hasn't taken the best care of it. Got rear ended twice. It has never blown a timing belt or anything but 3 months ago, something popped and now the speedometer does not work and it is leaking something.

I am in the process of fixing it.

I took a bunch of photos and will drop a write up in the appropriate thread as soon as I process the pictures.

This is one of the forums that has helped me out a lot in this adventure.

 

The speedometer part, might be a bad speed sensor. Has the checking light come on??
Do you know were specifically leaking from??

 

I bought a speed sensor but I hope I wont need it. I cleaned the engine best I could. Drained the oil and transmission fluid. When I drained the tranny, about a cup of fluid came out. So I am 99% sure the transmission seal is what is leaking. I added new oil and gear oil and started it up. As soon as I started changing gears and accelarating, the car started leaking from what looks like the transmission.
