Can you read the alarm messages in the 1995 cabrio computer? If so, how do you hook up to it and where is the computer located? The distributor cap came loose on one side while running and since then I seem to have a changing timing problem, with a check engine alarm light on. Could it have done in the halls switch in the distributor? Mickm

Welcome to the forum. ![](http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a121/KStanier/VWwelcome.gif)
You should be able to read any error codes if you find an EOBD II scanner, ideally VAG-COM\VCDS. The DTC socket should be located in the centre console somewhere around the ash tray remove it.
May be liike this.

A loose distributor cap won't change the igntion timing, it shouldn't effect the hall sensor.
