2.5 idle problem
Picked up a 2005 Jetta a month ago, it ran prefect when I got it but last week started to Idle very rough but it runs fine once you are rolling (anything over 1500 rpm) I pulled the codes and have a p0016 and p0301-p0305
while the code points to timing chain I see other options that can cause this. (crank sensor cam sensor pcv system vac pump n205 sensor....) can anyone give a good order of attack and steps to narrow down and eliminate this issue. Thanks in advance for the help! Rick |

New Developments,
I checked the plugs and they looked fine. wire brushed and reset gaps and reinstalled, and replaced the crank sensor, plan to replace cam sensor as well but it was out of stock and I have not had a chance to get back to part store. Looked over the wiring, did not see anything obviously rubbed and or damaged. I have been driving it and as I said it runs fine over 1000-1200 RPM but is terrible at idle. So today on the way to work the EPC light has come on, quick internet visit and it looks like throttle or throttle Body? hopefully this is what has been causing the idle issue as well and now I have a hard code. Can some one direct me to a diagnostic stream for this? Thanks |
Also there are numerous mentions G#'s for various sensors. where can I find this list to reference?
Thanks again |
Each component has an ID number there are hundreds of them.
e.g. Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor (G28)/Crankshaft Position Sensor (G28) Airbag Seat Detect Sensor (G128) Ambient (Outside) Air Temperature Sensor (G17) Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Wheel Speed Sensor: Rear Left (G46) Anti-Theft System Sensor (G578) Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40) Coolant Temperature Sensor (G2) |

She went to the scrap yard, VW charged me 150.00 to to tell me I needed a 1800.00 repair on a car I paid 300.00 for?
The car was literally like new other than the engine problems so I guess they thought I would cough up for the repair. |
