Default 1998 Cabrio GLS

Hi.

Lots of questions. I hope someone can help.

Anyone know how to get into the trunk? The key goes in and turns to lock/unlock and the outside button pushes in, a parts person told me that he can feel it unlock when I put the key in the door to unlock the car, but when i push the trunk release button nothing happens. It’s just stuck. It should be that you turn the key to unlock and push in and the trunk latch releases. But it doesn’t. Any ideas how to fix it or get into the trunk to open it? Also, I don’t recall there being a trunk release button inside the car, but I was all over the internet last nite and people kept mentioning a button, so i will check today. Even if there is one, i don’t see it releasing the latch tho.

I also replaced the overhead light bulb (over rear view mirror) to make that light work again, but it didn’t go on. It’s not the bulb cos the package came with two and neither one worked. Any idea why it doesn’t work or how to fix it? Is there a fuse?

How do i replace my gearshift ****? It’s so old it has literally disintegrated. It got sticky and big pieces peeled off. Now it’s just a creepy white plastic thing.

i have the key fobs that came with the car, but they don’t work. I’m wondering if it’s as simple as replacing the battery inside?

My car is a 98 and has 120k miles on it. I am shocked at how difficult it has been to find someone willing to work on it. I brought it to my local VW dealer cos i needed license plate screws and could not find screws that fit and the parts guy could not have been less interested in my relic. Confusing.

From what I’m hearing parts for this vehicle are very difficult to come by. So far i have been really lucky just using eBay. Anyway, any answers you guys can provide would be great! Thanks!

This is my girl. 🙂
