1967 VW Bug owner

Greetings,

I have a 67 bug. Since I am now 65 I hadn't planned on getting a old bug, but things just sort of worked out that way for me. From doing a brake job on the car to owning it was not planned. However, I am pleased that it worked out that way.

I hadn't worked on a bug for probably 25 years until this 67 came along. It had been redone at some point, but is in need of attention in some areas.

Most notably:
  • Body rot-not severe-the corners of the doors, the drivers door post(front lower), the pan below the drivers side rear seat, and a spot near the engine compartment
  • Engine compartment has been squeezed at somewhere down the line. It took 2 hrs to drop the motor after having to remove the muffler. To get it back in the valve covers had to come off(I know...)
  • Shocks
  • Front seats
  • Drivers side visor
  • The front has been slightly pushed in
  • Windscreen
  • Wiper switch
  • Cardboard under the hood(both)
  • Peeling clearcoat
The bug was originally beige, if I am to go by the color under the hood and engine cover.

I actually have had a great time with it so far. It got me from the SF BayArea to the high Sierra, along State Hwy 4, last summer, without much problem. It was a good shakedown cruise.

The ride made very apparent that the heads needed to be re-torqued. Hence the engine removal.

Bruce
