Default VW Beetle Ignition problem?

Hi all,

First post on this forum and i need some help. My girlfriends 2000 VW Beetle 2.0 wont start for. Since arriving half an hour ago when the key is turned in the ignition the car starts for maybe a second then cuts out and the 'electronic immobilizer' light flashes on the dash (lights shaped like a beetle with a key symbol on it). From the manual this indicates that a non-authorisedkey is being used which isnt true as its the same key weve always used. We have also tried the spare keys with the same result.

Can anyone shed any light on this fault? Is it something to do with the batteries? All keys lock and unlock the car fine. Could the cars own battery be low or has the immobilizer broken?

Thanks for any help.

Buz.

I think it is more than likely the car battery. I'd get it tested or get a new one if it looks old.
