VR6 vs. 1.8t reliability

I am thinking about a VW Jetta in the 2003ish vintage. I have been considering mostly 1.8t models because the engines bloodlines interests me, and also because I was never too impressed with the original VR6. A friend of mine used to work as a VW mechanic and he does not have much good to say about the VR6 either.

But, becuase I want a loaded Jetta (leather included), most seem to be VR6 models for some reason. I also planned to chip the 1.8t, but the VR6 comes with 200hp stock.

Should I be concerned?

Also, what about maintenence? Is one better than the other?

Different cars have different problems...ie..My VR6 has been excellent, my boss's is a piece of crap..his is a 2001, mine's 2000. I know a 2001 1.8 that has nothing but electrical problems running through it. In my opinion, it's hit or miss.
