Trans fluid????

my wife has a 2005 Jetta, 2.0 BBW automatic with 81k miles . Spec calls for Mineral oil to be used for changing or topping off the trans fluid. Just got back with 1 liter from my local VW dealer, coasted me 27$ with tax. I guess you all now know this is the first VW I've owned. I never thought I would be paying 27$ for a liter of tranny fluid. My question is are there any other fluids I can use instead of mineral oil, or does any one know somewhere cheaper to buy it from. I checked Auto Zone and Advanced Auto, they don't carry it. When I checked the fluid it was to dark for my liking, I plan on doing a full system flush. Don't worry I been working on cars my whole life, just American ones. I'm well aware that changing the tranny oil in a sealed transmission is more difficult for the do it yourselver; I'm up to the challenge. This whole thing started because my wife who drives the car said it was shifting funny. Checked the fluid level 95 to 113 degrees, and level, it had 1-1/2 liters to much fluid. And no the extra volume of fluid is not from another source like cooling fluid leaking into the tranny. Drained the excess fluid, and she is shifting fine now but the fluid is way to dark, and needs to be changed.

Any suggestion on finding cheaper transmission fluid????

Thanks Michael

FYI; Mobil 1 ATF synthetic and Volvoline AE Maxlife are according to the company compatible replacements for 052-162-A2

looks like I'll be paying $7.99 more or less a liter
I'll post how it works after awhile
