RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
Racing? Drag or course? Keep a "tippy" (auto for drag, you'll never shift as fast with a manual) |
RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
oh and btw, I dont' know about the VW tranni's
but generally to convert any FWD auto to a manual takes a custom kit and crap load of cash. -Jeff |
RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
o0o kk well i DRAG...n tought it would help my time....
|
RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
Yea...manual is a lot more fun, automatic
can get boring, but if you have trip it's kinda the best of both worlds. |
RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
mmm.Right Right....so do u think this TIPPY is taking away from im time?or its shouldnt
|
RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
Well, tippy shouldn't take away from
your time. You don't clutch, so it's just like auto, yet you have more control over the shift points. The only thing thats gonna take away from your time is lack of experience, street tires, weather conditions, etc. but since you're doing only 16's, you're doing as best as you can for what you got. Best advice I can give you is learn your car inside and out, learn how to drive THAT car, know every inch of it. Every car is different, including identical make/models every one of them has its own character. -Jeff |
RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
yeah ur right...but i ma tire dont spin so i loose time cuz it peels out i dont know how tho cuz i have the peel out control thing on ma car i dont know how that works but i guess learning it would b best thanx 4 the advice.:D

RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
Yea I think what you're talking about is called
traction control which is becoming very common on all vehicles. If you're still peeling out, you're not running serious horsepower so it's safe to upgrade to a better quality tire. Put on wider tires, it'll help with traction. Problem is, when you put on a good tire with a lot of horsepower, you hook up and it puts strain on the transmission and things like the diff and axle drive shafts, which will break with high torque/horsepower. (unless you upgrade them to performance parts) In this case, you dont' have to worry about that. The higher quality tire should solve your problem. You may end up buying new rims, I don't know...consult a local shop that sells performance rubber (tires) and see if you can get away with the rims you have. -Jeff |
RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
Thanx for the advice.this will prolly help me ALOT:D:D

anytime bud

RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
something to keep in mind with an auto for drag racing,...it is an advantage if you have a ton of power, but an auto drive train has more drivetrain loss to the wheels...the same car in auto and manual will almost always have differences in wheel horsepower.. for consitancies sake, it will be better with an auto, but with the manual, and a good driver, youll run quicker...on a stock car...(in most cases)

RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
I have to agree and disagree. The benefit with auto in all cases (except rally or course)
is that by simply reprogramming the computer you can change your shift points to a higher rpm to help stay in the power curve. Now add a stage 2 shift kit and no manual will touch you. Benefit of manual, the horsepower won't change, it's about making the most efficient use of that power all the time (stay in the power curve). But like I said, you'll never shift as fast as an auto. Add the shift kit and reprogamming, you're ahead of the game, and any manual. ps. but manual will always be the most fun!! -Jeff |
RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
but that reprogramming still doesnt account for the net power loss due to the added weight of the internal workings of an auto tranny.

RE: TIPTRONIC to MANUAL
If you do the #'s you'll see what I mean. I've seen
the applications, i've seen the tracks #'s and the power "loss" is so small it isn't even worth mentioning. Let me make it simple, put 2 identical cars both with power adders installed, one auto, one manual (standard shift) and I can guarrantee you that the manual won't stand a chance. An auto can shift in anywhere from 0.15-0.30 of a second. Spent lots of time in cars with a diagnostic reader and even surprised the hell out of me. They are both excellent designs, just each is individually better for different conditions. |
