shift knob removal 2001 VW Jetta

Can anyone help me, I am trying to remove the shifter knob on my 2001 VW Jetta 1.8T. It doesn't want to twist off and I don't want to break it. I am making an 8 Ball shifter knob for it

RE: shift knob removal 2001 VW Jetta

I can only ass u me that it would be similar to a 2001 golf - if that is the case, in order to replace your knob there are two things you have to be aware of.

First - I believe that the knob and boot are inseperable and therefore a new boot may be in order as well.

Second - in order to get to the area for knob removal you must lift the boot (there is a plastic retaining bracket at the base of the boot that just pops out) peel the boot up to the top and along the way you'll notice a brass clip that you must remove (cut) off that holds the knob in place. Then simply lift up on the knob and it'll pop right off. You should recieve an adaptor with your new knob.

Hope this helps
