Default Volkswagen Family Parts

The phone control module on my 2012 Bentley Continental GT apparently failed and needs to be replaced. When I pulled the VAGCOM fault codes this is what I got:
"

What's the difference between the SW part number and the HW part number? When I looked up the SW part I got a control module from a latest generation Phaeton costing about $900, but when I went to Bentley they wanted $4700 for what I'm guessing is the HW part. Does anyone have any idea if the SW part and the HW part would be interchangeable? I know Volkswagen/Audi/Bentley share a lot of parts and I'd rather not pay $4700 for something that should cost no more than $900...

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the information. I took the car to Bentley and they said that it needed a new module. I spent the entire weekend running a battery of tests to see if the batteries were at fault including testing with my other car's relatively new battery and had no luck. I checked the fuses and still no problems there, so I'm guessing either it's a wiring issue or a genuinely dead module. I'm curious if it's possible to exchange the SW and HW parts?

I see you've asked about this.

Exchanging SW and HW Parts?
